{surprise!} vintage circus baby shower

I'm going to be an aunty to a new baby very soon!! My brother and his gorgeous fiance are expecting a little bundle of joy in early October...can't wait! Over the weekend family and friends came together for a surprise baby shower. Aimee & I jumped at the opportunity to style the special event in our soon to be released vintage circus theme!

Starting with this adorable invitation, we carried the gorgeous vintage colour scheme & theme throughout the decor and food...
We filled the dessert table with fun, circus inspired treats...donuts, popcorn, lollies and fairy floss cupcakes!
Inspired by Kiki La Ru, I created miniature cake bunting for the nappy cake centrepiece...so sweet!

Tissue pompoms in red, blue and white were hung throughout the party room.  The red ones were finished with pointed ends...reminds me of pom poms on the end of a clowns hat!
Fairy floss cupcakes and popcorn cones... I just couldn't resist trying out the gorgeous fairy floss cake inspiration we came across last week!! I had originally planned to use the polkadot cones for the fairy floss, but I think the popcorn looks great in them!
I found these adorable 'wishes for baby' cards at lilsugar.com, and customised them to our vintage circus theme with a polka dot background! Thank you gifts were a simple striped paper bag, filled with sweets and finished with a co-ordinating thankyou label.

A fabulous afternoon was had by all! Lots of love to the mum-to-be and an extra-special thankyou to everyone who helped out!

  7. Thanks for sharing this! Super cute ideas. I tried to find the "Baby Wishes" on the lilsugar website, but no luck. Do you have a link you could provide?

    Thanks so much!!

  9. Perfect! Thanks so much! One more kinda dumb question...how did you customize them? It appears that there are 2 options to print on off the website, but I don't see your cute polka dot ones as an option or a way to change/edit. Did you have to purchase the ones you used?

  10. Hi Angela, I basically recreated them, using the lil sugar ones as inspiration. I have just sent them a message, asking permission to share my cutom version as a free printable, so hopefully I hear back from them soon :) In the mean time, please feel free to email me, tanya@thecandytree.com.au I can't see any problem sharing with a friend, so long as it's for personal use:) Tanya x

  11. darling!!! how did you make the popcorn cones and what did you put them in on the table? thanks!

  12. thank you!! the popcorn cones are made from our vintage circus 'designer paper'. Simply take a half sheet of A4 paper, roll into a cone shape, and stick with tape. To serve, I have used a square of florists foam, which I have wrapped in paper and stuck bamboo skewers onto, then simply placed each cone over a skewer and filled with popcorn! Guests can pick up a cone and the skewer stays in place! x

  13. GOD BLESS YOU! I love, love, love it all! Absolutely UH-dorable!!! We're planning our daughter's 1st Birthday with circus theme and would love to use your brilliant ideas! Thank you for the inspiration! Where can I find those striped paper bags? and the flag banners?

  14. thank you Deborah!! I made the striped bags...you will find a tutorial for mini popcorn boxes here (http://sweetlittleparties.blogspot.com/2010/07/create-mini-popcorn-boxes-tutorial.html) which are made the same way :) The flag banners are often called 'bunting' and there are many online stores who create unique bunting! x
